Alignment, Anatomy and Awareness
School of Yoga

Introduction - Course Overview

This is a comprehensive 200 hour Yoga Alliance approved curriculum. It is designed as an 8-month program that starts January 2020 at a pace that is manageable for participants to learn and grow while still maintaining their usual schedule and life. We meet twice a month on Saturdays for 7 hours with adjustments made for major holidays.

Unlike many other studios, our program includes access to unlimited yoga classes while in training at no extra cost.

This training combines the powerful science of aligning your body with heart-oriented yoga philosophy, beginning with 6 weekends of chakra immersion. Take the six chakra weekends to deepen your personal practice as well as explore alignment techniques, breathwork, meditation, journaling & philosophy. Share your journey with others who are embarking on the same self-exploration. Discover a new found passion and freedom on and off the mat.

Take the additional Teacher Training weekends to apply your new skill to teach:

Learn and practice the artful communication skills necessary to teach an inspiring yoga class. Design and teach your own yoga class.

Chakra 1 & 2 - Setting the Foundation for Transformation

In this immersion, we will explore the history of the yoga tradition and the Non-dualistic yoga philosophy. We will learn and practice how to align our body and study the anatomy of movement which enhances the body’s structural and energetic foundation. We will support your physical practice with pranayama techniques, meditations and life skills.

Chakra 3 & 4 – Yoga of Action and Devotion

We will study the Bhagavad Gita and the philosophy of Karma and Bhakti Yoga, opening the heart through action and the love of yoga. Our study will be with the intention of experiencing these great scriptures at a cellular level and to apply this philosophy at every level of our practice, relationships, thoughts, actions, and feelings.

Chakra 5, 6 & 7 - Growing Wisdom

We will immerse ourselves in the study of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and experience how relevant and valuable this ancient text is in our lives today. We will learn the art and science behind yoga sequencing for your own practice with the underlying inspiration of The Yoga Sutras. We will deepen our meditation practice with contemplation and journaling.

Teacher Training Weekends - Offering Self

Now you will have the opportunity to bring all the experience, practice, study and growth you have accumulated thus far to the next level. You will design and teach a class while using appropriate language to effectively communicate the alignment, action, and attitude necessary to execute a heart-oriented and inspiring class. You will learn how to safely and effectively adjust students in poses verbally and physically.

Upon completing this program, trainees will understand

  • Patanjali’s 8 Limbs of Ashtanga Yoga,

  • The 7 main Chakras and how to balance them

  • Alignment principles, adjustments, and modifications

  • Anatomy of muscles relating to yoga poses

Each class includes meditation and pranayama practices. The 7.5 hour day includes an opening Asana practice, whereas the 6.5 hour day includes a practice yoga class to allow for trainees to deepen their own practice.

Students start building a toolbox of meditations and sequences throughout the program to grow personally.

With the teacher training weekends, students will practice leading a class through asana, meditation, and pranayama as well as hands-on adjustments and cueing throughout the program.

At the conclusion of the program, if all requirements are met, you will be able to apply with Yoga Alliance to be a registered yoga teacher (RYT).
